3rd Generation in the Financial Services Industry
When I was four-years-old, my dad called me into his home office. He was struggling to close a case. At this time, he was working in manufacturing plans selling glue. One of his biggest clients was a hot sauce called Tabasco.
He told me what was going on—that he couldn’t get his client to say yes to him over his competitors.
I asked, “Can you make yours better?” He said he’d tried that.
I asked, “Can you make your price lower?” He’d tried that, too.
“Well Dad,” I said, “You’re KCCHHH!” while dragging my index finger across my throat.
And little me was right; he did not close that sale.
How could a four-year-old advise an adult business person?
The only explanation is that it’s in my blood. In my soul.
My grandfather had a successful career with The Prudential for 40 years, selling life insurance property and casualty insurance. My dad worked for his dad in the family business for two years before working in manufacturing sales for 7 years then opening his own independent financial advisory firm in 1999.
During the summer of 2004, I started helping out around the office with basic administrative duties. I worked a few holidays and random summers before leaving for college in 2007.
Fast forward to 2011, I have my degree in English Creative Writing and Photojournalism. I moved back home from Tennessee and started helping out around my dad’s firm again. After observing me handle more and more complex tasks, my dad called me into his office one day and offered me a full-time position.
So, I counter offered him, much to his surprise, and started in my new position of Client Relations.
Until this time, my dad’s firm had always consisted of him and an assistant. I watched as his team doubled and the opportunities for expansion came rolling in. Now he had someone to focus on marketing and building client relationships.
I was so excited to get started on social media, a new website, and taking the firm into the 21st century by utilizing technology!
I was born to guide people.
